A polyp is an abnormal growth of tissue that projects from a mucous membrane, commonly found in areas such as the colon, uterus, stomach, or nasal passages. Polyps can vary in size and shape and may be sessile (flat) or pedunculated (attached by a stalk). While many polyps are benign, some have the potential to become cancerous over time.
