An ectopic pregnancy is a medical condition in which a fertilized egg implants and begins to develop outside the main cavity of the uterus, most commonly in one of the fallopian tubes. Because the fallopian tubes are not designed to support a growing embryo, this type of pregnancy cannot proceed normally and poses serious health risks to the mother. It often requires urgent medical treatment, which may include medication or surgery, to prevent rupture and internal bleeding.
