Bacterial Vaginosis (BV)

Bacterial Vaginosis is a common vaginal condition caused by an imbalance in the natural flora of the vagina, where harmful bacteria outnumber the protective lactobacilli. It often results in a thin white or gray discharge with a strong fishy odor, especially after sex. BV is not an STI but can be more prevalent in sexually active individuals and those who use douches or certain hygiene products. Left untreated, BV can increase the risk of pelvic infections, preterm labor, and susceptibility to STIs. It is typically treated with antibiotics such as metronidazole or clindamycin.
