Oophorectomy

Oophorectomy is the surgical removal of one or both ovaries. It may be performed to treat ovarian cancer, cysts, endometriosis, or as a preventive measure in high-risk individuals (such as those with BRCA mutations). When done bilaterally in premenopausal women, it induces surgical menopause, necessitating discussion of hormone replacement and long-term health impacts.
