Hysteroscopy is a diagnostic and surgical procedure that involves inserting a thin, lighted telescope (hysteroscope) through the cervix to examine the inside of the uterus. It is used to evaluate causes of abnormal bleeding, remove polyps or fibroids, and investigate infertility. The procedure can be done with or without anesthesia depending on whether it is diagnostic or operative.
