Dilation and curettage (D&C) is a minor surgical procedure in which the cervix is dilated and the lining of the uterus is scraped or suctioned out. It is commonly used to diagnose or treat uterine conditions such as heavy bleeding, after a miscarriage, or to remove remaining tissue following childbirth.
