Braxton Hicks contractions are irregular and generally painless uterine contractions that can occur during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Sometimes referred to as “false labor,” these contractions help the uterus prepare for actual labor but do not lead to cervical dilation or indicate the start of childbirth.
